The Junior Seau Foundation sponsors three major programs each year to benefit San Diego’s most important resource – its children! These programs are underwritten by both individual and corporate donors who want to make a difference in the lives of children.

In December, the Junior Seau Foundation will team up with Target and over 200 local professional and amateur athletes to give 200 underprivileged children from the Boys and Girls Clubs of San Diego the opportunity to shop for gifts for their loved ones.  Junior believes that it is important for children to learn about giving during the holiday season – he hopes the children will experience the true meaning of the season as they shop with their jock for gifts for their families.

 Scholars of Excellence Program

 The Scholars of Excellence Program was the first program the Foundation created in 1992.  It was designed to recognize young men and women who are dedicated to both personal and academic excellence.  Financial assistance is granted to high school graduates who have the grades and the desire, but not the means, to attend a four year college or university.  In 2009 the Foundation will award 20 scholarships amounting to $100,000 in financial aid. 

Thanksgiving at SEAU’s The Restaurant 

Every Thanksgiving Junior hosts a dinner for 700+ clients of non-profit agencies, including homeless shelters, rehab centers, victims of domestic violence and military families at SEAU’s The Restaurant .  This day exemplifies Junior’s belief in giving back to the community.  It is a true celebration of thankfulness.

The footprint of the Junior Seau Foundation can be found all over San Diego as it strives to empower and educate young people in the community.  From funding new athletic fields in La Mesa to constructing an activity center and recording studio in Oceanside, the Foundation is focused on making a direct impact in the community.  Since 2003 the Foundation has allocated more than $1.2 million dollars for programs that inspire young people to face life’s challenges with enthusiasm, hope and dignity.
